OPERA REBELS
Opera Rebels Collective
Opera Rebels Collective is a dynamic vocal duo and creators’ collective, founded by mezzo-soprano Roza Herwig and soprano Ana-Carmen Balestra. With joy, boldness and imagination, they bring a fresh and contemporary look to classical music.
Their mission: to let a broad audience experience, at the highest artistic level, how beautiful, thrilling, and emotionally layered classical music is. With their rebellious performances, they aim to make everyone fall in love with the genre, from seasoned opera lovers to curious young newcomers.
Opera Rebels Collective blends traditional opera with theatre, jazz, folk music and a dose of humor, often in collaboration with other musicians and artists. With their expressive voices, powerful stage presence, and natural connection with the audience, Ana-Carmen and Roza move listeners straight to the heart. Each program is a unique experience: personal, musical, and full of energy. Opera Rebels adapts to the moment, the space, and the audience.
One of their most beloved programs is ¡Opera Rebels Goes Wild!, a festive theatrical recital where well-known arias, duets, and songs are reimagined and performed alongside lesser-known gems and musical surprises. Audiences are invited to listen, laugh and sing along.
Opera Rebels has performed at festivals, in concert halls and theatres, but also in intimate living rooms and atmospheric cafés. In April 2025, the collective made its international debut in Portugal and will perform more national and international concerts in 2026.
Furthermore, Opera Rebels is developing larger-scale productions, including their first opera. In 2026, they will present a new version of Humperdincks Hänsel und Gretel: “Hansel & Gretel, On the Run!”, a family production featuring a musical ensemble, five singers, and a narrator. This show is specially designed for young and new audiences, using music and imagination to explore current themes such as poverty, fleeing, and hope in times of despair.
